Some recent updates

Thought it might be time to share some updates:

A new payment flow

The default payment flow has been reworked to use a different API. It’s now using “Paddle Billing” instead of “Paddle Classic”. This has a few advantages and offers new possibilities for the future:

  • There is now a mapping between the info-beamer account and the the payment account on paddle’s side: This allows having properties (like certain tax-exemptions) attached permanently once approved.
  • Payment is now also possible in (as of now) four currencies: EUR, CHF, GBP and USD. Each currency is converted when starting a transaction and matches the default price in Euros. This should avoid any additional currency conversion cost for those currencies. It is possible to add more supported currencies later.
  • Payments now always provide a PDF invoice.
  • An PO can be added to invoices if needed. Similarly it’s possible to generate an invoice without immediate payment. Such a PDF can be forwarded to the billing department and they can either pay by wire transfer or by following a payment link in the PDF to finish the purchase without needing an info-beamer account.
  • (In the future) The same payment mechanism can be used to allow automatically renewing subscriptions.

A new asset uploading flow

The asset uploader has been reworked to be less clunky. It now shows upload rate and expected remaining upload duration. For images it tries to detect if EXIF data indicates that images are stored rotated. This can happen if a picture is taken with a phone, for example. Previously such images might have the wrong rotation in the dashboard. They are now automatically rotated prior to the upload to have them in the expected orientation.

When uploading assets directly from the asset selector in (for example) the setup editor, the newly uploaded asset will be shown at the top, making it easier to immediately select.

The next OS version

The next stable release is almost ready. It has some nice performance improvements and other features that will be detailed in a future post.
